Marie Holford was passionate about working as a day care educator in her city of Adelaide but had felt unsupported over several years as she tried to achieve her childcare career goals.
When she first came to MAX, she felt jaded. Her experience with another job services provider had left her feeling unheard and dispirited.
Her MAX consultant Matt worked alongside her, getting to know her, her goals and hope to work in childcare.
Matt knew of a program that could help make Marie’s transition into the industry smooth.
Works Program is a training organisation, and their Child Care Services Training program is designed to connect people who are keen to start a career as a childhood educator with their Pre-Employment Program (PEP).
PEP offers participants the opportunity to undertake a 36-week training program incorporating vocational education, first aid qualifications and the supervised work experience placement required to complete the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
Graduates of the program are eligible for employment opportunities with over 20 Stepping Stone (SA) Childcare and Early Development Centres across South Australia.
Marie knew of this program too. In fact, she had previously applied for this program but had never been successful in getting past the first interview stage.
With her confidence down, she was reluctant to try again.
Matt continued to work alongside Marie to build her confidence back up and set strategies in place to give her the best chance possible of succeeding in her application.
Matt provided coaching and encouragement and arranged for new interview clothing so Marie could be sure to put her best foot forward.
Marie was now on her way towards achieving a start in her dream childcare career.
She’s now completed the majority of her Certificate III qualification and is set to start working and achieve her childcare career goals shortly.
