MAX has been partnering with AA Sunstate Packaging for the last 4 years, placing our Disability Employment Service (DES) customers into sustainable employment.

DES Business Manager Nancy Whippy works closely with Rosa Zardus, Director of  AA Sunstate Packaging, to confidently hire individuals with disability and create a truly inclusive workplace.

When Nancy first visited the worksite, she was able to thoroughly assess the workspace, evaluate accessibility features and understand the work culture.

"Rosa described what each area did in the factory, and I identified suitable areas in the workspace for individual customers,” says Nancy about the initial visit.

Next, Nancy helps Rosa streamline the hiring process: “I provide Rosa with detailed information about our customers, including their availability and capabilities. Then, I screen the most suitable candidates for Rosa.”

Nancy has in-depth insight to precisely match our customers’ strengths and transferable skills to the right positions.

The ability to confidently recommend candidates who can best contribute to AA Sunstate Packaging’s specific business needs is acknowledged by Rosa, who says:

“Candidates from MAX are just as capable and efficient as those from mainstream agencies, with the added advantage of receiving unparalleled support from MAX.”

But the support that MAX provides to AA Sunstate Packaging doesn’t stop there.

“I catch up with Rosa at least once a week,” says Nancy. “She provides feedback, which I pass on to the customers, and I’ve seen how the constructive and encouraging feedback impacts our customers in such a positive way.”

Beyond providing feedback, MAX provides practical support to customers. This support benefits AA Sunstate Packaging by saving them on resources. As Rosa explains, “For employees with an intellectual disability, MAX provides them with training and guidance, instead of our manager spending extensive time and effort. If qualifications are needed, MAX offers training programs, such as getting a forklift license or basic factory orientation.”

It’s clear that the work Nancy does to facilitate connections empowers employers like AA Sunstate Packaging to make informed hiring decisions. Rosa shares:

“It’s a testament to the fact that when given equal opportunities, individuals with disability can perform exceptionally well and contribute significantly to their teams. To employ individuals with disability is not only rewarding, but also a deeply enriching experience for me and my company.”
