After months of searching for work, Raphael Scully finally landed a job that he loves.
It all started with a love for American muscle cars. After a bit of help from the MAX Employment team at Goodna, Raph was on the road to a new job detailing and cleaning cars at
Westpoint Autos, Darra.
He couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw a shiny black vintage Chevrolet Impala parked in the reception. From that moment he knew this was the job for him.
“It’s so laid back here, I am actually able to do the work properly,” Raph says.
“I am proud that I have been able to do a good job and keep customers happy. It gives me a big grin from here to here,” he beams, pointing at his smile.
Placement Consultant Kylie-Maree Henderson said it feels great helping make a tangible difference to just one person’s life.
“It’s great Raph is finally doing something he loves,” she says.
“He is just weeks away from getting his licence so we’ve organised with his family to help him drive to and from work,"
Kylie says persistence was the reason for Raph's success.
"Were on the road and we just called in and had a chat with the friendly staff at Westpoint Autos,” she says.
“The next morning Raph started a paid trial for a week so I was up at 5am to bring him to work. We worked together on the first day detailing cars – it was awesome and I had a great time.”
Raph says he feels much more confident after being in the job for a few weeks.
“I now have an income, I’m working independently and I’m not relying on someone else to do things for me,” he says.
“I am going to be able to buy my first car with my own money!”
Raph’s supervisor Adam Fennell says he’s in his element working with cars.
“He’s focused on work and wants to be here, which makes a big difference,” Adam says.
“Kylie has been great and regularly checks in to see how Raph is doing. Everything is running smoothly and we are really glad he’s come on board.
“It doesn’t matter what you do in life, if you don’t like it, or don’t have a passion for it, do something else.
“Raph has a passion for what he does and wants to get it right - people like that always go far in my eyes.”
