Iziah impresses in new role.

After months of unemployment and casual work, Iziah is relieved to have found stable work at Australian Wood Panels

MAX Employment Ipswich Consultant Peter Jeffrey providing in-work support to Iziah at Australian Wood Panels.

21 year old Iziah is finding his feet as Timber Production Supervisor at Australian Wood Panels, Ipswich. After months of unemployment and casual work, Iziah is relieved to have found stable work close to home.

"The stability makes a bit difference. I got a job in an ice cream factory and worked hard but after a certain amount of time they got rid of my group and brought a new group in."

Iziah didn't have any prior experience in the timber industry, but was able to learn quickly, advancing from assistant to supervisor in just three months.

"I'd never used a hand drill or a grinder or anything like that before, so I was a little bit hesitant at the beginning, but now I'm really confident."

Being able to help new employees is the best part of Iziah's new role.

"Helping them learn new things and seeing them be proud of their work is the best part. There was a guy who came in who'd never touched a hand drill in his life, he was a bit nervous, but he smashed it because he had our support. He's more confident now."

It was in his very first consultation at MAX Employment Ipswich that Iziah was presented with the opportunity at Australian Wood Panels.

"I'd only just signed up to MAX. I came into the first interview with my consultant and he said 'What do you think about doing this?' He emailed the boss and I started the next day."

MAX Employment Ipswich continue to support Iziah.

"If I need help with anything, if I need any support, I know I can call MAX. Whether it's financially; helping with fuel cards, clothing and boots, or just having someone to talk to and vent to."

Ipswich consultant Peter is pleased with the outcome.

"We try really hard to match the person to the job and this is a case where it's worked really well."

"The employer worked to educate Iziah so he could work independently. If Iziah was having trouble he could call us, but he never needed to. You show Iziah something once, and he's good to go."
