Certificate 3 Guarantee - Queensland Only

The Certificate 3 Guarantee  provides a Queensland government subsidy towards the training costs for eligible individuals undertaking their first Certificate III qualification after leaving school. It supports school students and Year 12 school leavers by giving them fee free access to training in high priority qualifications, helping them into employment and is funded by the Department of Education and Training, Queensland Government Initiative.

Eligible students are only entitled to one Government subsidised training place in a funded Certificate III qualification. It is very important that you take the time to consider and compare your training options and costs before signing an enrolment form or committing to a course of study which will use up your entitlement.

You are eligible for Certificate 3 funding if:

  • you are 15 years or older
  • have finished or left secondary school
  • are a Queensland resident
  • Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrant) or temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permit on the pathway to permanent residency
  • you do not hold or are not currently enrolled in a certificate III or higher level qualification (certificate III qualifications completed at school do not apply). Employment status does not matter, nor is there any minimum education requirement, except the standard entry requirements for the course

Student Contributions

Student Co-contribution Fees for concessional* and non-concessional participants apply to all qualifications offered through the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program. Student Co-contribution Fees are the essential training costs for participants to undertake the qualification and include service fees, material fees and other costs associated with delivering the training. Traineeships

Under a QLD traineeship, the QLD government pays the major contribution towards the cost of the course and both the employer and student will be required to pay a contribution.

The fees for the relevant qualification are detailed below.

More details for the traineeship can be located on Queensland Training Information System - http://qtis.training.qld.gov.au/Training

Student Fees

Fees are based on units of competency in the Qualification.

Fees
Full fee calculated at $1.60 per nominal hour for unit of competency
Partial exemption fee calculated at $1.60 per nominal hour for unit of competency x 40%
Full exemption no additional payment required
exemptions apply for financial hardship
exemptions apply for school based trainees

Student contribution fees are calculated once the training plan has been negotiated, as each unit is different, and there are no fees payable for Credit Transfer.

Fees for elective units will be added to the standard training plan once they are applied for and confirmed with the student.

We understand that some students will be financially disadvantaged and will not be able to proceed with their traineeship if they have to pay the fees.  In these cases, we will help the student apply for an exemption of fees.  Ask your trainer for more details.

Employer Fees

While the QLD government pay the majority of the cost for training, the employer is also required to pay a fee.  Exemptions apply for courses that are a high priority for government.  Exemptions also apply if the trainee is in a Priority Population Group (PPG).

PPGs are those declared on the national Apprenticeship/Traineeship Training Contract, such as individuals of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin, individuals from a non-English speaking background and individuals with disability, impairment or long-term condition.
